Pomoca soon in Chavornay

Present in the Lake Léman area since its origin, will leave Denges to settle in Chavornay. The leading company in the climbing skins market intends to respond to the continuous growth of ski touring market. The company has just acquired a land in the northern Vaud region and, once the new Pomoca factory will be built, will move in Chavornay with more than 60 employees.

Pomoca was a family business, born in 1933 in Les Avants above the city of Montreux then moved to Aubonne from 1960 to 2011 before establishing the production line in Denges (VD). At the same time, the company changed its status and became part of the Oberalp group, which is headquartered in Bolzano (I) and brings together several brands specialized in outdoor sports (Salewa, Dynafit, Wild Country, Evolv). In 2017, Salewa Switzerland moves its headquarters from Hérisau (AR) to Denges.

The needs of a bigger space has grown in the recent years with a strong growth, accelerated by the pandemic which drove people to a sports close to nature, especially in the mountains. This is the case of ski touring, for leisure or competition. Pomoca has seen its production increase significantly and has doubled its capacity in Denges. Faced with this development, the construction of a new production and management building became necessary. The search for a new location led to Chavornay. Pomoca will set up a factory, its offices and those of Salewa Switzerland. About 60 employees will work there. Chavornay has been chosen for the proximity to the Leman Lake area and it is on the way to the German-speaking part of Switzerland. The question of a possible relocation was of course raised for this company, which has a global market. For Pomoca - and the Oberalp group - this option would have been a mistake, as the product is recognized for the "Swiss made" quality label. Moreover, the company remains close to a land rich in ski culture. Another advantage for the research and development sector is the proximity of institution such as EPFL, with which POMOCA collaborates.

The signature for the promise to purchase the land was done with Mr. Christian Kunze who was signing his last act as Syndic of the municipality of Chavornay. In Chavornay, the POMOCA building will be the third of the Oberalp group after the headquarters in Bolzano (I) and the Dynafit building in Kiefersfelden (D).
